When we approached this fireplace mantle project, it occurred to us that the current fireplace stone was out of proportion with the room - a long, wide living room. We suggested that a portion of the stone be covered by the mantle to bring it back into proportions with the room. To this end, we also suggested adding book cases to widen the piece.

Nearly 10 inches of stone were covered by the mantle. The finished product is more than the homeowner expected, and was done within the original budget - costs were diverted from a much more costly fireplace screen. We helped the homeowner shop for a less expensive screen, which in the end, they liked better than the original choice.
